I determined the desired results in Stage 1 of my design based on the Common Core State Standards. To be able to reach the end-point, I came up with essential questions that explore the ideas presented in the standards and help students reach the understandings that I believe will best help them master the concepts according to Common Core expectations.
I determined what knowledge and skills students should acquire as a result of learning based on those understandings I established earlier. Essentially, the understandings are the abstract results, whereas the skills and knowledge are more concrete and a result of their uderstanding. My goal is to have them acquire skills and knowledge that will ultimately help them in college and in the workforce by thinking critically and transferring their learning to real-world applications.
